#LoveStories celebrates the good people who make a difference. Tell a story about someone who has made your life a little lighter. Better yet, share that story with them.
It takes a village to stay on top of our health and wellness. From personal trainers, massage therapists, yoga instructors, and nutrition experts to counsellors and your friends who cheer you on, so many people support you and help you along the way. When we take care of ourselves, we are in much better shape to take care of all the people we love and cherish. Taking care of yourself is one of the greatest gifts you can give to others.
Today tell us a story of a wellness professional who has supported your wellness journey or a moment on your own where you felt vibrant and alive.
Share your story. #sharethelove
River Meditations
Whenever I have time, I head for the hills. I love to be outdoors. I enjoy hiking. I love the feel of the earth beneath my feet. I love the colour of the forests, red and green and brown, earthy colours that help ground me when my energy is rising.
A favorite moment on any hiking trip comes when I am quietly sitting by a brook or river. I love to take in the shapes and the colours of the rocks, listen to the sound of the water move past and feel surrounded by the landscape. Every time I hike, I take some time to sit beside a river and practice mindfulness.
I sit still and center myself. I focus on one breath in and one breath out while focusing on one aspect of the experience. I could be listening to the water move past me or taking in every detail of a boulder or studying a tree downed in the water.
In these moments, I feel one with myself and the world. Peace envelops me. We often think of wellness as eating the right food, or getting enough exercise, but in these moments, I am exercising my inner world. When I am finished and I come back to the crazy world I live in, yet I am calm. I can manage the day to day mayhem with more grace and thoughtfulness than I would without this time out.
