#LoveStories celebrates the good people who make a difference. Tell a story about someone who has made your life a little lighter. Better yet, share that story with them.
Best friends know your darkest secrets, hope for your greatest successes, and love you when you are being your worst self. Life would be miserable without a best friend to turn to. Who is your best friend and what do you love about her the most? Tell us the story.
Share your story. #sharethelove
BFF
I am blessed to have more than one best friend, some of whom I have known since childhood. My oldest friend has been with me since elementary school.
Today, we live thousands of miles away from each other and rarely talk, but I know she is there. Through social media, I see her raising a family, succeeding at her chosen profession and living her best life.
When I was young and at the mercy of my abusive father, she and her family gave me a safe space to be away from home. She and I hiked through the ravine and forests where we lived. We played in the river catching crayfish and paddling in the hot sun too cool off. We walked to and from school together. We talked boys. We did all the things that best friends do.
When my family was finally torn apart by disfunction, we lost touch. Social media didn’t exist back then. Years later, we found each other on social media. When one of my father’s crimes was announced in the media, she reached out with words so kind she brought me to tears. Even today as I write this, I feel the power of her compassion and understanding.
I am grateful for the power of her friendship, which transcends time and place.
